Help us share information about climate change impacts and solutions in DC, and
how students can get involved.
We’re looking for a student volunteer to help manage our social media! This role involves brainstorming post ideas, creating content using tools like Canva, and publishing updates on our social media accounts.
1. Interview a person or research a topic
2. Take photos or create a graphic
3. Write a thoughtful caption (at least 100 words)
4. Submit your caption and photos/graphic here
5. We'll post your content on
@DCYouthClimateCorps Instagram account
Please reach us at admin@DCYouthClimateCorps.org if you cannot
find an answer to your question.
All young people can submit content to be posted on the DC Youth Climate Corps Instagram account (@DCYouthClimateCorps) and cross posted on the DC Youth Climate Corps Facebook page. If a contributor is younger than 13, we will need parental permission to post content.
The most engaging posts are posts that feature people. We encourage students to capture stories of people who live and/or work in Washington, DC.
If you interview someone, it could be a friend or family member who is concerned about climate change, or who has experienced extreme heat or flooding. It could be someone who is working on climate change related issues and can share their insights.
Students can also tell their own story.
As long as the post is about CLIMATE CHANGE and WASHINGTON, DC, it works!
Ask questions about how your interviewee feels about climate change, whether they think it will affect DC, what actions they are taking or actions they hope DC residents and leaders should take.
HOT TIP: Record the interview using the voice memo function on your phone so you can transcribe the interviewee's responses later!
We also like more informative pieces, such as graphics that tell a climate story through words and pictures. It could be a story about a new solar farm, DC's first Community Resilience Hub, tree planting, students pushing for the Green New Deal for DCPS, or the push for home and car electrification. There are tons of stories of climate action happening right now in DC!
You can find more post ideas here.

Unfortunately, in 2024, DCPS changed its requirements. Students can only earn Community Service hours if they volunteer for organizations that are registered with the government as a 501(c)(3) organization. DC Youth Climate Corps does not have this designation yet.

If you have any trouble with the form, email us at admin@DCYouthClimateCorps.org.
When you submit a post, we will ask you to provide your name and grade. We will include it in the post caption to acknowledge your contribution. If you'd like, we can also tag your Instagram account in the post.
If you prefer to remain anonymous, that is okay, too.
